Chapter 8:The History of Life on Earth: Summary
Chapter 8 discussed many great things and the history of life on Earth. It talked detail about fossils and the age of fossils. And discussed relative dating and absolute dating which are methods to finding how old a fossil is. It also talked about the geologic time scale and the divisions in it, mass extinctions which are when a species dies out completely. In this chapter, the changing of earth and Pangaea are important , plate tectonics are also important. These are all important because it provides information on why we are in Pangaea any more and why earthquakes happen; it helps in many ways. In the next section it talked about the eras of the geologic time scale which are Precambrian time which is the first era and is the time formation of Earth 4.6 billion years ago to about 542 million years ago, the Paleozoic era which is the second era and began about the same time the Precambrian time ended and ended about 251 million years ago, the Mesozoic era which began 251 million years ago and lasted about 185.5 million years, lastly the Cenozoic era; the era we live in today. The Cenozoic era began about 65 million years ago and continues to this date. In the last section it discussed about humans and other primates such as chimpanzees, apes, monkeys, and lemurs. All of these organisms have things in common with us, but we also have differences. We all descended from one organisms and just to make sure we did not descend from monkeys.
This is a picture of the Earth before we were there; it was called Pangea
This is a picture of the Earth now; as you can see Pangea was all the countries and continents put together like a puzzle, but over time evolution happened and the plates moved away.
